Our kits include special 2 foot braided leads from the K type thermocouples to the gauges. In addition we have the instruments specially manufactured and calibrated for us to cover the range from 100 to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit.
The lower end of the scale is so that you can see what is happening at idle or small throttle openings on light load. That's useful for making sure that carbs are correctly synched and to identify differences between cylinders that could indicate trouble ahead.
At the top end our gauges go to 1,500 degrees F, which is about 300 degrees above the recommended top end temperature. Remember that different bikes and different riders run different temperatures at different parts of the circuit. The trick is knowing what works best for your bike.
Others may offer you a stock aircraft gauge with their logo on it, but that doesn't make it any more useful. What you need is a gauge designed for motorcycle racers by people who understand the unique requirements of a race bike.
